MISTER BIRD

5.30

Born and raised in the small mountain town of Canmore, Gareth grew up with the forest as his backyard. You can hear his love for nature pouring out through his music. Inspired by the starry night, old trees, moss-covered canyons and the way water sings. As soon as he could, he left home, with a backpack and an adventurous spirit to New Zealand. It was there where he got his first guitar. He had helped a friend build a fence in trade for an old dusty 5 string Yamaha. It wasn’t before long he fixed the broken string and wrote a collection of unique folk songs. Like flowers blooming overnight a dream was born.

Gareth has travelled the world with his music, on a wing and a prayer. Playing all kinds of venues along the way. From street corners to stages, pubs, cafes, dive bars, outdoor festivals, house concerts, even on mountaintops! He returned to Canada in 2017 & continued performing, with the intention of  finally recording some of his songs.  In less than a week, in a small cabin below cedars by the sea, Gareth recorded his first full-length album titled “ The Immeasurable Blue ”. Its raw, original and as real as it gets. He released the album independently and hit the road, touring through Alberta and B.C.

JOANNE MORRA

8.00

Joanne Morra began her artistic career in the visual arts, but the bilingual singer songwriter’s powerful voice refused to play second fiddle for long.

For over two decades she has sung jazz, blues and funk across Toronto and the GTA and crooned to audiences at high toned establishments, corporate events and weddings, gritty late night clubs and festivals.

In 2017 Joanne released her debut album ""Alouette"", a deeply personal collection of bilingual classics ranging from Québécois rock to jazz standards, blues and original compositions. In August of 2019, she was an artist in residence at ""Les rencontres qui chantent"" (ANIM) in Petite-Vallée, Gaspésie, home to the world renowned ""Festival en chanson"". Her latest single ""La destinée"" 2023, has been featured on CBC's Big City Small World and Frequencies.

MISSED QUEERNECTIONS

10.30 Doors
11.00 Show

A new dance party concept and show from the House of Adam and Steve, at Missed Queernections each guest will receive a numbered sticker (voluntarily of course!) with a corresponding numbered mailbox located in the bar where messages can be delivered.

Perhaps there is someone in the room that you see around that you've always wanted to become better acquainted with. Maybe someone is wearing a sickening outfit that you want to compliment, but you are too shy to approach them. Do you just want to say hi to a stranger because they look like they could use a smile? Maybe you never called someone back and you want to say sorry and try again.

You don't need to identify as queer to participate! It's open to everyone, with the goal of encouraging new connections and friendships.

We've got DJ Mar spinning tunes all night to keep the vibes flowing, and our host Allysin Chaynes hosting and performing throughout the evening.

POSITIVE VIBES ONLY. CONSENT IS MANDATORY.
