This new song cycle takes the listener on a spirit journey into the heart of Canada from gorgeous Lake Superior to Moose Jaw SK, the historical Klondike Gold Rush of 1896 Dawson City, Yukon, and the rural landscape around Southern Ontario’s Devil’s Glen and the Mad River.

The Tich Maredza Band plays a fusion of Zimbabwean contemporary and traditional rhythms powered by messages of inspiration, hope, love, celebration, and awareness. With original songs composed by JUNO Award-winning musician Tich Maredza, the music features rhythmic drive, melodic intelligence, and lyrical messages of challenge and hope based on Maredza’s experiences not only as a musician but as an immigrant. Backing Maredza up are Gordin Mapika (drums and vocals), Larry Lewis (guitar), and Tich Gombiro (bass). The band has appeared at festivals across Ontario including Afrofest, as well as accompanying and sharing the stage with visiting African stars including Zimbabwean legends Thomas Mapfumo and Oliver Mtukudzi.

FETHI NADJEM

Fethi Nadjem was born in 1983 in Algeria where he grew up in a family of musicians. He began playing the guitar and oud at the age of 13, and developed his skills within the Fine Arts Association in Algiers. He learned Andalusian classical music becoming accomplished on both violin and mandolin. At age of 21 became one of the founders of a world music fusion band named Djmawi Africa.
