Human rights music project about Ukraine's stolen children

Daughters of Donbas - Songs of Stolen Children is a music/human rights project that deals with the war crime of the 20,000+ Ukrainian children that have been abducted from occupied regions in Eastern Ukraine and taken to russia. It’s led by Ukrainian-Canadian singer Marichka, winner of the Amnesty International Prize in collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer and award-winning journalist Dan Rosenberg.

Join us for a unique concert, where we fight from the stage.Marichka has worked as an embedded war correspondent in Donbas, met with families affected by war crimes and the horrors stolen children have experienced in filtration and re-education camps.Featuring Alina Kuzma, Zoë Santo, and a string quartet, Daughters of Donbas blends elements of art-folk, chamber music and Ukrainian folk vocal traditions. The project is grounded in real stories of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia during the full-scale invasion. Each song bears witness to a stolen name, a stolen childhood, a silenced voice.

JESSICA SPURRELL
8.00

Drawing from Newfoundland folk roots and contemporary jazz influences, Jessica Spurrell is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter. She is inspired by music that layers intricate arrangements with thoughtful lyrics- a distinct blend of instrumental and songwriter elements heard in her recent record, The Gentle Hand.

Jessica loves to perform live, sharing stories and laughs from the stage. She is a familiar presence across Toronto venues, and recently made her out-of-province live debut, with summer performances in Banff, Montreal, and in her hometown of St. Johns, Newfoundland. Eager to connect with wider audiences, Jessica is particularly excited to tour Ontario and the East Coast in 2026.

Joined by an eclectic ensemble of vibraphone, strings, hand-percussion, and drums, Jessica is excited to return to the DROM Taberna stage. Prepare for an evening of adventurous folk, jazz textures, and all-around killer musicianship.
