TKS Presents:
BEYOND THE PALE
7.00

For over 20 years Toronto’s Beyond the Pale has been making its distinctive brand of boundary-busting Eurofolk fusion. Inspired by Klezmer and Balkan styles but influenced by everything from jazz and classical music to bluegrass, newgrass and reggae, Beyond the Pale’s music traverses a vast and exotic musical landscape, bound by no particular idiom and shaped by many. Their stellar musicianship, meticulous dynamics, adventurous compositions, and inventive arrangements of traditional material make them one of Canada’s most innovative acoustic ensembles. Though individual virtuosity abounds within the group, the collective sound always takes precedence, conveying the deep and generous bonds of creativity that unite these longtime collaborators.

SAMUEL RONTO
8.00

Before moving to Canada in 2006 Samuel Ronto made a name for himself all over Eastern and Central Europe as an exceptional violinist. Graduating with a Music Diploma in Hungary, he hit the ground running and was principal violin in orchestras all over Austria, germany, Holland, Greece and Switzerland. He has played for high profile events including Royal family weddings and has been seen and heard on the radio and television in Hungary, Germany and Switzerland. Although Ronto is classically trained he uses his impeccable technique and musicality to share traditional Hungarian folk tunes, jazz manouche alongside popular and recognisable classical tunes.

HARRY BARTLETT & DAN PIT
11.00

With shades of bluegrass, folk, jazz and classical, Harry Bartlett and Dan Pitt offer an experience that is both familiar and markedly fresh. Harry and Dan met in 2016 while Studying Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto where they were drawn to each other by a mutual attraction to folk styles. This project highlights their distinct and communicative relationship as they push themselves to find new perspectives to the timeless acoustic guitar duet. Harry and Dan have both received awards for their music and have both toured across Canada with support from various arts councils and festivals.
