ALEX BIRD & THE JAZZ MAVERICKS
6.00

Over the last few years, Alex Bird & The Jazz Mavericks have become one of the biggest names on the Canadian Jazz scene. With praise from around the globe, Bird, alongside songwriting & piano partner, Ewen Farncombe, has created timeless and heartfelt originals for a modern audience. This talented team has produced something that is completely unique; three original albums in three years. Their sophomore album “You Are the Light and the Way”, backed by their “Jazz Mavericks”, was nominated for “Best Vocal Jazz” at the 2022 JUNO Awards.

Bird and Farncombe’s latest album, a duo record, dropped as a surprise of 11 originals entitled, “Songwriter”. Kira Grunenberg at DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE wrote, “Impassioned messages sung and played from one’s heart but worn on a well-dressed sleeve. “Songwriter” is an elegant, romantic, and well-executed gem of a record.” The album was nominated for “Best Vocal Jazz” at the 2024 JUNO awards.

Rosy Cervantes is a Mexican-Canadian composer. In 2002, she founded the musical project La Sana Rabia, performing at national and international festivals in Mexico, Colombia and Canada.
Since she was a child, she loved folk music. Later, she ventured into rock and blues, and now performed various rhythms from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Rosy participated in the “Cuernavaca City Blues Band” alongside Lalo “Chico,” currently the guitarist for TRI of Mexico.
She also did a concert with Mexican Blues legend Betsy Pecanins.
In addition to her songs, Rosy performs music by the most famous composers of Central and South America. A dynamic element that characterizes it is intense or very soft singing, delivering a mosaic of emotions.
In 2018, Rosy sang the Mexican National Anthem at the CONCACAF Champions League Final at BMO Field in Canada, broadcast internationally.

HARMOLODICS
2.30

The Harmolodics band was formed in 2018 by Benjamin Green as a tribute to the great improviser Ornette Coleman and has since grown into a redefinition and continuation of the idea and concept of harmolodics music. Utilizing electronics and and electro acousticmanipulation, the Harmolodics trio strives to push the boundaries of “the trio”.
From meandering improvisational textures to soaring melodies, hard hitting grooves to tender explorations of emotion, the Harmolodics seek to convey real feeling, passion, and unabashed sonic freedom.
