Freeman Dre hails from the once gritty but quickly-gentrifying neighborhood of Parkdale. It’s a place where junkies, winos and new immigrants exist in the shadow spaces between condo towers and artists’ lofts. Even as gentrification pushes them out, these wayward characters find a home in Freeman Dre’s songs. The tunes are direct, memorable, wildly romantic, and informed by the North American folk-rock tradition as much as his Irish and Polish roots. They invoke hug-your-neighbour singalongs, foot stomping dance parties, and more than a few tears. Like a late night shot of whiskey, Freemans Dre’s music hits you straight in the gut and then fills your head with the foolish idea that, with enough love, anything is possible.

Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Simon Williams is a Toronto-based composer and pianist.  Heavily inspired by contemporary jazz and Latin music, Simon's compositions frequently feature unconventional harmony and complex rhythmic patterns.  Despite this, his music remains melodic and accessible, and he is incredibly excited to bring his sextet to DROM Taberna!  Simon's band features other young musicians from across Canada and around the world!

Botany, an electronic music/live remix group. What we bring is a blend of planned electronic textures, beats and vocals and real-time improvisation, creating an immersive experience that is experimental while incredibly danceable and recognizable. Our performances have been compared to a live mixtape/DJ style performance, but with the added energy and appeal of a live band. In combining a wide range of rhythms, tempos, and harmonies while also seamlessly transitioning between songs, we are able to create an engaging musical experience for the audience, delivering a unique and memorable show.
