FRIDAY

RAY MONTFORD
6.00

Ray Montford’s powerful original tunes are characterized by a wild and raw beauty. Often inspired by the human condition, his instrumental compositions paint haunting canvasses that are rich in imagery, taking the listener on an unforgettable journey. Blurring boundaries between rock, blues, jazz and folk, the most striking aspect of Montford’s artistry is that he finds countless ways to convey emotion through his compositions and soulful playing, letting his instrument sing and wring emotion from every note. Ray has released seven studio albums, two live albums and about fifteen videos.

His new and long-awaited seventh studio album, Share My Sky, is the acclaimed guitarist’s first recording in six years. Exploring the themes of loss, grief, trauma, compassion, forgiveness and love, Montford has expanded his sonic range and compositional depth, to offer his most personal and emotional statement to date.

OCEAN BOMB
11.30

Ocean Bomb is a collective of Toronto’s fiery young talent. Feathering original repertoire inspired by the sounds of 80’s pop and soul.

A BAND CALLED MAX
2.30

bandcalledmax is a Toronto-based rock & roll trio with influences from Chuck Berry to the Kinks. Featuring Dave Monks (Tokyo Police Club) on guitar, Nick McKinlay (Motorists) on drums, and Mike Small (Meligrove Band) on bass, these three bring a dangerously unskilled yet mysteriously tight show to the stage—somehow always on the verge of collapse but never missing a beat.

With two records out and a philosophy of “rock’n’rollin’ and really having fun”, bandcalledmax keeps it loose, loud, and just the right amount of reckless. Expect soaring hooks, sweaty riffs, and a commitment to having a stupidly good time—and making sure you do too.
