RED HOT RAMBLE
2.00
Red Hot Ramble performs traditional jazz, blues, funk, along with second lines in the spirit of the great city of New Orleans but with a distinctly Canadian flavour!! Music that is as at home in a jazz club as it is a music festival or a wedding and yes, even a funeral! Red Hot Ramble is music about people... their ups and their downs ..their loves and their hates … their blues and their celebrations of life! Guaranteed you won’t be able to sit still when you come to one of our performances … in fact Red Hot Ramble is a much for dancing as it is for listening and singing along too! To borrow an old Louisiana saying, “Come as You Are, Leave Different”, Red Hot Ramble has a well earned reputation for their performances living up to that motto!
KALENDAR’S ZEMLYA EARTH: ALBUM RELEASE
6.00
After five years in the making, Kalendar is finally releasing their epic ZEMLYA EARTH album! The celebration will fill DROM Taberna with the full vocal power of Kalendar’s singers. Expect songs from the Ukrainian folk opera ZEMLYA EARTH (created by Marichka, premiered in 2017), alongside other vibrant tunes embodying the strength, joy, and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
Formed in 2013 out of Kosa Kolektiv’s singing events, Kalendar has spent years studying and performing Ukraine’s traditional polyphonic songs. Under the leadership of Marichka – a graduate of the National Academy of Music in Kyiv and founding member/soloist of the renowned Bozhychi Ensemble – the group developed the repertoire and techniques for this album, which reflects the lives of Ukrainian village women and their deep connection to the earth’s cycles.
Want to know more? Stay tuned for prereleases - or better yet, come out to DROM on Sunday, November 16 at 6 PM!
MEZAR
8.30
Mezar is a band that bridges ancestral traditions and contemporary sound explorations. Their music brings together oriental afro blues — drawing on Sub-Saharan heritages — with analogue textures and a research-driven approach to sound. The result is a music both rooted in ancestral memory and open to futuristic horizons.
The group gained early recognition with a debut album and the title of Radio-Canada Revelation in world music (under the name Nomad Stones), which led to tours across North America. In 2024, Mezar released the EP “Sohan”, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, exploring the story of a Tuareg dreaming of becoming an astronaut. Presented at the MaMA Festival in Paris and finalist for the Prix des Musiques d’Ici, this project marked a turning point for the band.
Now signed to the Canadian-Jordanian label Keife Records, Mezar is preparing a new album while continuing to perform on European and international stages, carrying their unique blend of heritage and sonic innovation.
