Vocalist, composer, educator, and bandleader Raquel Marina Skilich is recognized for her adaptability, competence, and originality. Raquel recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Comprehensive at the University of Toronto.
She is a winner of the 2023 Youth 4 The Ages competition hosted by the Niagara Jazz Festival and often leads her own bands around the GTA performing her own arrangements and compositions.
Additionally, Raquel has more than five years of experience teaching voice, piano, and composition lessons to students of all ages. As an emerging Canadian jazz artist, Raquel is optimistic in building a music career to connect with others on a deeper level creatively and authentically.

A festive hurricane, el Balcón captivates and compels their audience with their fiery stage presence, dynamic sound and their family-like love for playing with one another. This highly original and fully acoustic ensemble is leading a new wave of progressive Latin music. Mexican folk instruments such as the Jarana, Requinto, and Quijada (Donkey Jaw Bone) blend harmoniously with the microtonal melodies and asymmetrical rhythms of the Oud, violin, and Riqq. With their all original 4th album set to release on march 14th, 2025, el Balcón plans to take their music across the country and the world in the coming years. A refreshingly unique, East meets West experience with a fresh sense of groove.
