Baoba and The Pairs Live!

  • Drom taberna 458 Queen Street West Toronto, ON, M5V 2A8 Canada (map)

Goddess night with Baobá and The pairs.

The Pairs are a folk-pop group powered by 3 classically trained vocalists and a former punk rock drummer. Their unique blend of harmony and rhythm will hug your eardrums and force you to dance. Their storytelling and honest songwriting provide an uplifting audience experience you won't want to miss.

Baobá is a trio formed by Toronto’s top female percussionists that take traditional beats to the next level. Empowered by the natural musicality that flows from South American bodies, Anita Graciano, Y Josephine, Mari Palhares representing Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil respectively, demonstrate a great mix. Ideal balance of voice, melody, and instrumentation.
When the group started in 2015 the dynamic was clear. The members study different drumming rhythms from various backgrounds and then follow to influence one another into shaping what has been taught into a new lesson. Although this project might appear recent, Anita, Y, and Mari, planted this Baobá seed way back on the common grounds of friendship and continuous arts making.
The group performs mostly original songs, old school latin cover hits, Cumbia, Salsa, Funk, Afro-Brazilian/Colombian/Venezuelan and many other Latin-inspired rhythms. Definitely a crowd pleaser.
