11pm Ceux Qui Marchent Debout

Ceux Qui Marchent Debout are a heavy funk band from France using amplified 1930s brass band instruments.

Created in 1992 by Superclark, producer of Malka Family and founder of Patate Records, "Bart" and "Androuze", trumpet and tromboneplayer of "La Marabunta", and Roufi, sousaphone player in Boula Matari. The band was originally called Les Fils de Crao playing mostly in alternative venues and bars of the Paris area. Because another band has the same name they switched to "Ceux qui marchent debout", a name that makes direct reference to the comic's character Rahan.

In July 1995 at the Bataclan de Paris, they shared their first big stage with American bass player and singer Bootsy Collins. A few months later they were asked by French film director Cédric Klapisch to compose the music of his next movie, Chacun cherche son chat("When The Cat's Away"). The band has played much since, opening or contributing with composers and musicians Fred WesleyMaceo ParkerThe Neville BrothersGalactic or David Byrne who featured their song "Horses" on The Cuisine Non-Stop compilation on his label Luaka Bop.

6pm The Bob Stevenson Quartet

The Bob Stevenson Quartet (Bob Stevenson, clarinet and bass clarinet; Jonnie Bakan, alto saxophone; Mike Milligan, contrabass and Jeff Halischuk, drums) performs music composed specifically for the group by Bob. The creative attitude of the ensemble is best described as what was referred to in 1960s jazz parlance as “new thing”. The music combines carefully composed material that does not necessarily use the standard song form, along with various approaches to extemporization that include free playing, creating over given chordal, melodic and rhythmic structures, as well as references to older and more traditional forms.

Unique drumming song experience by a female latin quartet Baobá.

Baobá is a quartet formed by Toronto’s top female percussionists taking traditional beats to the next level. Empowered by the natural musicality that flows from South American bodies, Anita Graciano, Y Josephine, Carla dias and Mari Palhares, representing Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil respectively, demonstrate a great mix; Ideal balance of voice, melody, and instrumentation.

When the group started in 2015 the dynamic was clear. Each member would influence the others through the different drumming rhythms they had studied from various backgrounds, shaping what had been taught into new lessons.

Although this project might appear recent, Anita, Y, Carla and Mari, planted this Baobá seed way back on the common ground of friendship and continuous arts making... The group mostly performs original songs, old school Latin covers, cumbia, salsa, funk, and Afro-Brazilian/Colombian/Venezuelan inspired rhythms.

11pm Jumple

For sheer exuberance, showmanship, and just plain fun, this band of crazed musical gypsies are simply impossible to beat. With all members of the band hailing from different parts of the former USSR, there is a distinct cultural and musical influence that clearly sets this band apart. It's very rare to see a live band that can coax a crowd into dancing the way JUMPLE can - they get people out of their seats and on their feet.
