The Sonny Balcones
Dec

The Sonny Balcones

The Sonny Balcones are a Toronto based jazz band that combine 30's and 40's swing with soft samba and sultry torch songs. And they may throw in the occasional old school r'n'b tune to really tug on those heart strings. Their live show has a comfort and familiarity as if an old friend has invited you into their living room while they tell you about all their (mis)adventures since you last met. You may find yourself snapping your fingers, tapping your toes, or making eyes across the bar. Music to swoon to.

7pm Fidel Fiasco

9pm Put your boot up w/ The Dropups

The members of the DropUps are as diverse as the music they create. They are led by Toronto-born song-writer and lead vocalist Mano Elia, who brings dynamic vocals, philosophical lyrics, a signature nylon-electric guitar tone, and the occasional Greek-Cypriot melodic and lyrical influence. JP Ditching’s frenetic and versatile drumming keeps the crowds dancing and smooths the stylistic transitions that sometimes take place mid-song. Multi-instrumentalists Mike Lemmons and Nick Li add bass grooves and varied sonic textures with trumpet, keys, saxophone and violin that give the band a broad sonic palette.

Baobá feat Carla Dias

7pm - BAOBÁ

Tambor Soul presents:

Baobá feat Carla Dias live at Drom!!!

The female percussive trio brings to you, original music from South America alongside w bass player from Brazil Carla Dias

Baobá is a trio formed by Toronto’s top female percussionists that take traditional beats to the next level. Empowered by the natural musicality that flows from South American bodies, Anita Graciano, Y Josephine, Mari Palhares representing Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil respectively, demonstrate a great mix. Ideal balance of voice, melody and instrumentation.
When the group started in 2015 the dynamic was clear. The members study different drumming rhythms from various backgrounds and then follow to influence one another into shaping what has been taught in a new lesson. Although this project might appear recent, Anita, Y, and Mari, planted this Baobá seed way back on the common grounds of friendship and continuous arts making.
